What's an "EA" and what does it mean?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is the ONLY federally licensed agent who has specific expertise in the field of taxation. By passing a three-part comprehensive IRS exam covering individual and business tax returns, an EA has earned the authority to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. The EA status is the highest credential the IRS awards. In fact, unlike attorneys and CPAs who may not choose to specialize in taxes, all EAs specialize in taxation and are the only taxpayer representatives who receive their credentials from the US Government.
